For God Has Not Given Us A Spirit of Fear – Part 70

For God has not given us a spirit of fearI trained my two little boys, to memorize 2 Timothy 1:7  – which says; “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind”  – every night before they go to bed.

Prayerfully this verse will sink deep down into their minds and spirits.

We must believe in the promise of God’s love to defeat the spirit of fear.

In Part 69 and Part 68 we have been teaching on What love is not, and what causes us to use weakness instead of strong love.  We said love is not weak, because God is love and God is not weak.

We are still in the series It’s Time To Believe in the promise of God – Love Never Fails.  It’s very hard to believe the Word of God when fear is more dominant.  It’s hard to be strong in the Lord and the power of His might when fear has us bound.  So we need to eliminate fear in order to display the true love of God.

We said Love Is Not Weakness and the cause of weakness is a spirit of fear.

In parts 69 and 68 we went over four things that fear will cause.  Let’s look at the fifth.

Fear Will Cause Us To:

5.  Obey Our Flesh Instead of Our Spirit

In Matthew 26:41 Jesus says; “…the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

Weakness is following your flesh, instead of your Spirit. (Now I am speaking to Born-Again Spirit Filled Believers).

Galatians 5:16-25

King James Version (KJV)

16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

When we mention the works of the flesh, most of the times we only think of sinful sexual lustful things.  But there are more areas than sexual sin when we speak of the works of the flesh.

Many times fear will cause us to live in the flesh and obey the flesh (our carnal sinful way of thinking) instead of forsaking our flesh.

Living holy can be fearful sometimes.  Think about it.  Have you ever thought to yourself; if I make a stand for righteousness and God I may lose my friendship, my job, my status, etc…that is a spirit of fear.

For example, I have seen young Christian ladies dating a young man, who is an unbeliever, and allow the fear of losing this man, they “think” they love, to not make a stand for holiness and righteousness.

Listen young ladies, the best way to know if your boyfriend loves you, is his willingness to abstain from sex to please God, not just you, until you say I do at the altar of marriage.  That is strong love.

Fornication (sex before marriage) is not just a sign of lust, it’s also a sign of weakness, because love does not produce sin, but lust, fear, and weakness does.

There is nothing that destroys a potentially good relationship more than fear and weak love.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, so let’s never be afraid to make a stand for keeping God’s commandments.

How Do We Get Rid of The Spirit of Fear?

The only way to eliminate or cast out the spirit of fear is to use “Perfect” Love.

1 John 4:18 (KJV): “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment.  He that feareth is not made perfect in love.”

Do not wait for fear to leave you, it won’t.  We must and have to cast and kick fear out of our lives with Perfect Love.

Sometimes we can’t just pray fear away, we have to love fear away.  Love is Strong !

Let’s go and give some love away, because “love isn’t love, until you give it away.”

Come back as we will continue to teach on what causes weakness.  So join us in our next post.

Please leave a comment and/or prayer request.

God bless,

Pastor David
